Problem

"An error occurred while resetting the SMC"
This error is not a hardware problem and is typically a configuration issue with the PC, INtime, and A3200.

Solution

  1. Open A3200 Configuration Manager.
  2. Under Controller > Connection Settings, find the Advanced tab and change Start A3200 to "On-Demand" if it is not already selected.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.
  4. Close Configuration Manager and run Shutdown A3200 (Windows search > "Shutdown A3200").
  5. Open A3200 Configuration Manager and navigate back to the Advanced tab in the Connection Settings window to see if the Start A3200 setting changed.
    1. Note: If this setting reverts back to "Automatically" (it does not save as "On-Demand") then A3200 does not have the required write/modify permissions to the following (hidden) folder in Windows: C:\ProgramData\Aerotech\A3200. You may need to connect with your company's IT department to set the correct write/modify permissions.
      1. To set the correct permissions, go to this folder, right click, select Properties, and go to the Security tab.
Set "modify" or "write" permissions for the Users group.
      2. Alternatively, you can manually modify the C:\ProgramData\Aerotech\A3200\A3200.mconfig file.
Change the <AutoStart> element from 1 to 0.
  6. Open INtime Configuration (Windows search > "INtime Configuration") and double-click to open INtime Device Manager.
  7. Find the Firewire card (IEEE host controller) or Hyperwire card (Aerotech Devices), right-click, and select Pass to Windows.
  8. Navigate to File > Save Configuration, then restart the PC.
  9. After a restart, go back into INtime Device Manager, find the card, and pass it back to INtime (Firewire - pass using polling, Hyperwire - pass using MSI).
File > Save Configuration and restart the PC again.
  10. After a second restart, please test whether a connection can be established.
  11. It's possible in some cases that a corrupt calibration file or program is loaded on the controller and is causing this error. Remove any active calibration files or programs/include files in Program Automation from A3200 Configuration Manager.

If the above points do not achieve the desired effect, the reinstallation of A3200 AND INtime remains, i.e. both must be uninstalled separately beforehand. Please check also the BIOS and Windows settings for the Real-time Performance. You will find these points on the page "Optimize A3200 Performance" on the A3200 help-file.
