This guide is to show how to configure the Automation1 software to utilize the build-in Virtual Mode to allow you to test or debug the software without physical hardware connected.

The Automation1 iSMC MUST be installed for this to work.

The Automation1 iSMC installation installs the kernel-level functionality for the Automation1 motion controller. This includes the INtime real-time operating system that is needed for the Virtual Mode operation. Having only the Automation1 MDK installed only allows editing programs without the capability to run the program.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Upload your MCD (Machine Configuration Definition) file provided by Aerotech. If you do not have an MCD file, create one by following the Machine Setup page in the Automation1 Help File.

  2. Navigate to the Configure workspace in the Automation1 Studio and Select the Machine Setup option.

  3. Go to the Controller set up step Click on the "Configure HyperWire" link.

    Expand

  4. Deselect the "Use HyperWire Communication" option.

  5. Press Update Configuration. Then Save Progress and Close.
